Listening

Have you ever been in a conversation with someone who does all the talking? You are waiting for the moment when you can voice a comment but they never seem to take a breath. And even when you finally say something they don't say much or just keep on talking. You may wonder if your presence even really matters or if you really matter to them. Do you ever wonder if God feels that way with us? We sit down with Him and present all our concerns to Him and then walk away. Or maybe we just call out to Him when we need help in a last ditch act of desperation.

But what would happen if we just took some time and sat and listened to what God is saying to us. If we were silent and heard the heart of God. How would that impact our relationship with God? Would we find ourselves in a deeper and more intimate relationship with Him? Would we see life differently because we hear His voice more clearly? Would our time with Him become more like a two way conversation? Would we wait in expectation for times to spend with Him because it would be like time with our best friend?

In the last months I have been learning under Bob and Nancy Aisawa the art of listening prayer. As we have traveled to different small groups this has been a whole new approach of building intimacy with our Father. We learned how to ask God "How do you see me?" and "How do you see others?" And we waited on God to hear His voice. The pictures, words, verses, and stories that we have experience are incredible!!! My life has been changed. If you haven't had a chance to experience this study, talk to Bob and Nancy about having them come to your small group. You may never pray the same way again.

  • The neat thing about listening prayer is that as you make yourself available to pray for someone or to be prayed for, God really does speak to you...
Ask "I don't get pictures..." Dexter Yuen... who not only got pictures when praying for someone but got to see that same person he prayed for get healed!
Ask anyone in our small group... Connie Gohata, Julie Yasuda, Doug Yasuda, Debbie Ohara, Dave Ohara, Greg and Carole Rupert... Bessie Yuen... Nancy and I... Ruth and Russ Takahata... God speaks (present tense) to us all the time! As Evasia says... we just need to put ourselves in the position to hear Him...
Just talk to any small group that has gone through our "Listening Prayer" training... they all heard God speak to them! It's exciting to hear God speak to you and to be spoken to and receive from Him...
It's really new... refreshing and always different... the pictures God gives us are always different and strange... and never boring.
His spirit is as fresh as hot bread right out of the oven...

Now is a good time to ask us out to your small group... we are actually free all evenings except Friday is open...

    smell the coffee!!!

  • Nancy and I have been using our small group as guinea pigs figuring out what to do in "Listening Prayer II"... everyone in our group is going through round 2 in learning how God speaks to each one of us all the time and it's new as fresh brewed coffee... tonight Nancy and I taught on spiritual discernment... we learned that it's a trained activity that uses all our senses including smell, taste, touch, and sight...
So we decided to pray for Rick Akiyama and use him as our guinea pig... what transpired was really out of this world... all of us in the room experienced different sensations including "good" and "bad" smells... "good" and "bad" feelings... "good" and "bad" pictures... simultaneously... Rick was discerning it all for us and was able to interpret everything we received... we read scripture that God prompted us to read... and prayed for Rick with passion from the Holy Spirit... and we smelled popcorn... yup... and at first thought it was from the youth group... later to find out none was being popped and the aroma only came from the room we were praying in... the amazing thing was that we all smelled similar things except some smelled burnt popcorn and others including myself smelled hot buttered popcorn... Rick was able to discern what all of it meant...
We left feeling a little sceptical... excited... dazed and confused... but knowing that God really does want to use us if we make ourselves available to be used... He really does want to let us experience Himself in tangible ways through all our senses...

Tonight the aroma of the Holy Spirit was hot buttered popcorn... the aroma of the enemy was burnt popcorn!

After the session and praying for Rick, he did say he felt a lot better emotionally but not physically...drat...
but he is willing to pray again.
That's good news since my track record is still at zero...Anyways it's not me but God that heals the impossible.
